The mud and the marvels.
Unmaintained dirt road. If it rains, don't try it — the clay traps trailers heavier than ours.
Sandstone buttes at sunrise and sunset that ruin every photo you'll take afterward.
Three other rigs in four days. The land is the host.
Best season
When to go.
March–May and September–October. Avoid July (heat) and August (monsoon).
Reservation tips
How to book.
- No reservations — it's dispersed BLM. Arrive midweek for the best pick.
- Fill water in Mexican Hat before the turnoff. Twenty miles is the closest spigot.
Worth the detour.
