The mud and the marvels.
Three miles of forest service two-track on the way in. Rough enough to rearrange your basement compartments.
No water on site. Nearest spigot at the ranger station thirteen miles down the mountain.
Aspens that are old enough to remember the last fire. Privacy you can't buy in a state park.
Free, fourteen-day max, and quiet enough that the dog hears every chipmunk.
When to go.
April through October. Below freezing many nights in winter; the access road becomes a slide.
How to book.
